Why Is Compassion So Important To Believers!

BIBLE TEXT LUKE 10:30-37.

Have you noticed that the environment we live in today is seriously lacking compassion? The sad truth is many believers ignore the hardship of other fellow believers, even the people around them.  Possibly some have shut their eye due to selfish interests. Observing the sufferings of others can trigger deep emotions in two directions, either to HELP OR WALK AWAY.

As a believer, would God want you to walk away? The answer is NO. Mathew 5vs42 says; give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Looking at the Definition of Compassion:

  • Compassion is feeling concerned for the misfortunes of others. It means to tolerate together or hurt together. Compassion is so important for us as a child of God; it’s like the air we breathe. It’s an expression of love to those who are suffering.
  • Bible Definition of Compassion:  The bibles show us ways to live a life of compassion towards one another. Proverb 31:8-9 says; open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
  • Verse 9 says open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
  • 1st John 3:18 says my little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
  • Zechariah 7:9-10 says Thus speaks the lord of host, saying, execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother.
  • Verse 10 says;
  • And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagines evil against his brother in your hearts
  • With these scriptures that have been shared, we can say compassion is not interested in the material or physical things. It’s more interesting in the human spirit and soul. The spiritual definitions compress living to ease the sufferings of others.
  • It is also important to note these fact that Mercy is the fruit of compassion; we are mostly moved by mercy to show compassion towards others around us.
  • Imagine in your community as a believer with less than one per cent people that can shoulder the responsibility of others. No one can put their personal need on hold to help others. It will be such a pathetic environment.
  • Let’s look at the life of Jesus as our perfect example, we have bible records where he was moved with compassion to heal the sick, feed the homeless, and bring the dead back to life, preaching in Love always.
  • As a believer, ask yourself the number of people you have helped in the last few days or months, if you cannot record 2-3 cases, then you are already dead in the spirit.
  • Kindly read the book of Luke and ponder on the story Jesus illustrates for us in that massage. A man was attacked by robbers, all his possession was taken and he was left to die.
  • A priest passed by him but could not help him, rather he walked away. Another temple assistant who passed by him still did not help him too. Then a Samaritan man came and was moved with compassion toward him. The Samaritan man helped him to clean his wound and took him to the innkeeper, instructed that he should be well treated, and gave them some money. He also promised to return with more payment on his next visit.
  • In verse 37 of that same Luke, Jesus instructs us to emulate the character of the Samaritan man and do the same which he did.
  • God our creator also looks upon the whole humanity with compassion, this is why he sends his only begotten son to die on the cross of Calvary so that we may have eternal life in redemption. Read John 3:16.
  • Compassion can be done in different ways either by Giving, by Preaching, by Praying for people you do not know. Read Luke 4:18, and Isaiah 61:1.

By Giving:

This is by showing kindness and care to help other people. Donating gifts to the homeless,  helping the widows, and volunteering to work with sick people or animals.

By Preaching:

Preaching the love of Jesus to unbelievers, reconciling the lost souls back to God, and sharing your salvation experience with them.

2corinthians 3:6 tells us that; who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letters, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

By Prayer:

If we pray with compassion for others, we sincerely feel their pain and this brings an instant intervention on that particular matter of concern. It is called the prayer of agreement.

Mathew 18vs 19 says again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Living a life Of Compassion:

Compassion helps you get connected to people and yourself.

Compassions make you Kind-hearted, Always Humble, and willing to help others without being asked.

Compassion is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. It’s a trace that must be seen in our lives as true Christians.

Compassion makes us have a very close relationship with God.

Compassion is God himself; ask him to baptize you with the spirit of compassion in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Cultivate this Good habit today and see your life moving from one testimony to another testimony.

Remain Blessed In Jesus Name.
